big news involving dinosaurs, monkeys, a woolen dress and miniature frogs!

dearies,

big news, our home renovations are done! as a result, i am seizing the opportunity to expand into a new service offering: darling dearie interiors.

this natural extension of my sustainable clothing business has kept me busy since the start of the year staging real estate listings, designing marketing and branding materials, and of course, managing our own home renovations from start-to-finish.

i invite you to click the image below to read my case study on our own home renovation & redesign where you’ll get a peek at all i was able to accomplish within a whirlwind nine month timeframe during the height of the covid pandemic.

also click here to go to my interiors webpage and read short stories about using animal print wallpaper, mixed tiles within one space, and why you should embrace statement chairs. short stories and case studies will be added regularly but as subscribers to my missives, you’ll be the first to hear of updates, tips, and product previews!

i am delighted to be sharing my love of sewing and design at my daughter’s school by volunteering support to her teacher who leads a “fashion club” for enthusiastic middle schoolers. members are currently preparing their fall projects, which will be entered into a national competition called make it with wool. i’ve even decided to enter the competition myself (within the adult category, ‘natch!). at present, i am assembling a version of my work-in-progress dilly dress pattern, using three different woolen fabrics for the fast approaching november 13th deadline. i’m a firm believer there are always new things to learn, and i’m excited to be experimenting with an assemblage of a wool plaid, solid, and houndstooth. even working with wool finds me happily mixing prints and patterns! of course, more on this in future missives.

we’ve been fortunate to have had a lot of rain from the summer monsoons this year, which have turned the typically arid desert landscape into a lush and verdant green. on the flip side, this has also brought out an entire eco-system of usually hidden wildlife, including moths, butterflies, grasshoppers, crickets and locus. in recent weeks, we discovered a colony of small, yet adorable, lowland burrowing tree frogs in and around our pool. fortunately, josephine, whose passion for critters is without limit, relocated them all to the grass in front of our house, so they could continue on their lifecycle journey.
