march flowers, new mishmash dresses & #darlingsfavoritesfriday
march 2018
dearies,
we have had an unusually warm winter this year in the pacific nw. because of that, our plants, bushes and trees began to bud much earlier than usual. even with a handful of unexpected snow events near the end of last month, the flowers and tree buds remained undeterred. it's wonderful to see signs of life in the garden and feel the change of seasons. as much as i adore fall and winter, the older i become, the more i appreciate spring and the sense of renewal it brings!
it's a good thing you can't see my sewing room because it is an utter disaster. truly, you could become trapped and lost for days! yet, going through the fabrics i've had for years, much inherited from family, has inspired me to create a new series of dresses i've dubbed "mishmash". these completely sustainable dresses are bits and bobs of fabrics, often stitched together to create larger pieces for dress components. the result is a beautiful mosaic effect when completed! these particular dresses also feature hidden hand embroidered messages on the back of the underskirt dress band, only to be divulged if the wearer so chooses.
it might surprise you to learn that my mishmash frocks are not for sale. instead, they are made with extra love and sent off to very special ladies whom i respect and admire. some of these remarkable women i know quite well, others are relative strangers, but a mishmash is the ultimate special delivery via mail surprise! you can see more of these unique, one-of-a-kind dresses, and their special features, on my website.
when it comes to instagram, i try to not get caught up in the mania of regular postings of certain tags for specific days of the week. on occasion i'll post for #wisdomwednesday and #throwbackthursday (and once in a blue moon, #flashbackfriday). yet while you could say my participation is sporadic at best, i have decided to start my own special tag for friday i'm tagging #darlingsfavoritesfriday. these posts will showcase some of the items that are near and dear to my heart and include a bit of back story as to their significance! here's a peek of a recent post:
if you don't already follow me on instagram i invite you to join me!
in the meantime, i hope you enjoy the coming rain and flowers of spring!
until my next missive...
xoxo
