back to school required reading!
can you believe it's almost the end of summer? school is about to begin for the dearie daughters, and mr. dearie and i are looking forward to the arrival of our favorite season!
confession time: i've spent a wonderfully lazy summer getting long overdue projects accomplished around our bungalow and have not made fashioning additional dresses a high priority. still, i have two gateway dresses to be posted in the s/m sizing, although alas, that s/m super mash-up i'd promised a month or so ago is woefully behind in its construction. (see what i mean? a very lazy summer!)
here is a sneak peak at that future super mash-up fabric combination:
the folkloric alphabet print coordinates so nicely with the vintage cotton floral from my gran's stash, and a remnant of the navy-based japanese cotton in a word jumble theme ties all three together!
before we get started, though, i want to direct you to an excellent article in the daily mail uk, how your clothes are designed to fall apart, about how today's fashions are intentionally designed not to last. if you weren't aware of this retail phenomenon called "planned obsolescence" then you have required reading to educate yourself, now! of course i'm pleased-as-punch that my namesake clothing does not fall into this atrocious category. like the vintage clothing referenced in the article for its quality and wearing longevity, my dresses and pants are constructed using high-quality fabrics and incorporating long-forgotten sewing fundamentals (french and reinforced seams, and hand finished details to name just a few). my dedication to the smallest details, and the fact each original dress takes a minimum of 20 hours to create from start to finish, guarantees you peace of mind that your new favorite dress will be a most valuable player in your wardrobe for years to come!
so, dearies, i have decided to release my two holiday mash-up dresses early, because mark my words...the holiday season will be here before you know it! there is a dress available in each size and both are delightfully themed without screaming "i'm a holiday dress!!!" to the world at large. also, these understated and restrained prints allow you to definitely wear these dresses well before and after the holiday season due to the subtly of their respective fabric patterns.
the l/xl frock has two of my favorite colors together in a modern ornament print: bright orange and hot pink! this dress looks like it would be particularly at home on a winter holiday vacation in a tropical destination, just as it would be a welcome change at home from the traditional holiday reds and greens.
personally, i think the minty santa kitties is my favorite of the two offerings! the mint green and hot pink are again, not the usual suspects in the holiday color spectrum, but they are especially delicious together and frankly, unexpected. every time i lay eyes on this dress i swoon at the color combo and then suddenly have a hankering for the frozen dessert, grasshopper pie! again, this dress has a subtle yet all-inclusive holiday theme and can be worn so many ways as is shown on my models in its listing and on the website in general. i can't wait to see who snaps these gems up and how they have fun styling it for the upcoming holidays and future holidays to come. (on a side note, while french peacocks is not a holiday dress per se, it would be an elegant and exotic alternative for one's new years eve ensemble!)
oh, before i forget, i wanted to share that i've listed two of my mash-up dresses exclusively on my etsy "annex", darlingdeariedresses, with super special pricing! this is a great opportunity for someone to snag a darling dearie original and discover just how comfortable and versatile my dresses are, for themselves.
are you following me on pinterest? if not, please do, and of course, continue to share and spread the word to friends, family and perfect strangers, about darling dearie!
until my next missive…
