flaming hearts are a popular symbol for expressing love and passion and winged hearts symbolize love as well. technically a child of the 1970’s, it was the 1980’s that are nearest and dearest to darling’s own winged and flaming heart. this handmade, one-of-a-kind, wearable art collar necklace is her homage to that place in time…so much so, you can almost hear the alternative 80’s british new wave music emanating from it.

darling has completely handcrafted six individual worry people dolls, who sport spiky punk rock hairstyles in appropriate dayglo colors. the dolls are outfitted in candy-colored clothing and secured atop layered wool felt hearts , stitched with gradient and metallic embroidery thread.

the hearts have sparkle and the dolls clothes and hair have sparkle, too!

the navy cotton & steel word jumble print cotton fabric (circa 2015) is a remnant from darling’s “folkloric” super mash up dress, while the black and white seersucker leftover from an early test of her flag pants. dark and light pink vintage rickrack frame the top and bottom of the necklace collar.

remaining true to her minimal-zero-waste ethos, a pair of scrappy tassel earrings utilizing the same fabrics within the necklace hang from bronze fish hook earrings. wear them together with the necklace as an ensemble or as separate accessories.

specifics: the individual worry people are created using wooden toothpicks, glue, acrylic paint, and bits and bobs of leftover muslin and darling dearie garment fabric bits. collar necklace is assembled from larger fabric remnant fabrics, vintage rickrack trims and grosgrain ribbon. a magnetic pill clasp makes it easy to put on and take off, while still remaining secure while being worn.

measures 3.5-inches from top-to-bottom of front center flaming heart, remaining collar measures about 2 -inches wide.

clasped sweep around the neck is 19.50 inches.

earring tassels are 2” x2” each, and 3” from top of fish hook to bottom of tassel.
