autumnal greetings, dearies!
i’ve come to realize, over the past several months, that as i share with friends and strangers the inspiration behind my brand, how unfamiliar people are with the term 'slow fashion' and/or the movement behind it. it is much like the slow food movement, i explain and which everyone can agree is a world-wide “thing”, now, where craft coffees, beers, spirits and foods are created and produced using high-quality, typically locally-sourced fair wage products, and prepared to preserve traditional and the regional cuisine. slow food is, quite literally, an alternative and antidote to fast food (and cheap beer, spirits and coffee).
enter the slow fashion movement, coined by kate fletcher in 2007. slow fashion is a growing movement of designing, creating and buying garments for quality and longevity. it’s about embracing slower production schedules, fair wages, lower carbon footprints and minimal (or ideally) zero waste in the creation of these garments. it focuses on assembling an enduring wardrobe, a wardrobe that isn't designed for a particular season. it is, quite literally, an alternative and antidote to fast fashion (the cheaply made, imported throwaway clothing society to which we've become accustomed).
last month i shared how i was an instagram newbie. i’m thrilled that over a month later, i have over 30 followers and counting! also, my learning curve with instagram has drastically decreased, and my a-door-nment giveaway during the middle of the month was, in my book, a success! if you didn't see my special email announcement during my instagram giveaway, i now offer a new category within my oddment collection called "a-door-nments"! these pretty little bits of whimsy are created to be hung from a door knob, coat hanger or from a window to decorate your nest and are beautiful on both sides to give you twice the displaying options:
as mentioned at the top of this newsletter about my mission to de-mystify what slow fashion is, in remaining true to my minimal-waste aesthetic and that of the slow-fashion movement, my a-door-nment decorations use bits and pieces of fabrics leftover from my dress and pant collections, while incorporating my vintage treasure trove of beautiful laces, trims, buttons and jewelry. and every oddment, whether it be earrings, brooches, or a-door-nment, arrives beautifully presented and delicately-scented of peonies!
speaking of my oddment vintage button earrings, they are photographed on my website for a pierced ear, but can be easily converted to a clip earring if that is your preference prior to shipping. i've added a notes box at checkout where you can let me know to convert them over to a dangling clip earring finding, instead.
sending a darling dearie one-of-a-kind garment or oddment as a gift to someone special? again, let me know during checkout and a complementary hand written darling dearie gift enclosure card will accompany your present to that lucky special someone!
presently, i’ve only offered shipping within the united states. however, if you require international shipping, please reach out to me directly at darling@darlingdearie.com and we will endeavor together about how i may best accommodate this request for you.
finally, a little bit of fun to share: mr. dearie and i celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary this past sunday, october 23rd!
married life has been wonderful, crazy and adventurous, and to quote our favorite blossom dearie song, “everything i’ve got belongs to you!”, mr. dearie!
until my next missive…
xo
